Moving Beyond Narrow Interests

When you disenfranchise others in their own lands then you obviously risk consequences to yourself in your country. How is it that so many politicians, pundits, and scholars have missed this simple lesson?

Well, it is not as if they have missed the lesson. It is just that the lesson doesn't serve their immediate selfish interests. Just listen to the talking heads on TV or radio when discussing issues of world importance. They will always discuss it in terms of national interest. As if there was nothing else to discuss but narrow government interests. But, our system of economics is based on this narrow interest, and it becomes our way of interacting with the world. We become conditioned to think and act within that narrow level of being. The power structure is well aware that when you disenfranchise others in their own lands there will be consequences, but they use the strategy of divide and conquer. They arm this group and arm that group and they give money to this group and that group to offset the inevitable reaction in hopes of weakening and splitting the opposition (this is also done in America). In the short term, this strategy works for their narrow interests; but, in the long term it only leads to a greater level of suffering. There are nearly 40 countries that possess nuclear weapons or have the capacity to make them. A new strategy will have to be found or the power structure will soon have an opportunity to test out the comfort of their underground cities. For the rest of us, we will not have that luxury.
