Understanding Will Open our Hearts

Understanding will wipe away the separation between you and others. Open your eyes and ears to the lives of others. It is probably impossible to hate and envy those that you understand. What we really despise in others is our ideas we have of them. We hold judgments and condemnations as if they were the keys to understanding human nature. But, these ideas tell us more about ourselves than others. When we seek understanding our minds will open to others, and we will see people and the conditions of their lives. Judgment fades and our hearts will also open when our intention is to understand. We begin to identify a part of ourselves in others, and we feel for them. Moreover, this process of trying to understand others will help us understand ourselves which in turn will help us in accepting and caring for ourselves. So, be generous in your attempts at understanding since there is no reason to place limits and everyone benefits. This simple, beautiful process is open to all of us; but we must consciously and intentionally seek to understand.
